Welcome to the R.A.F. Beach Units Website
The primary aim of this website is to promote awareness of the Royal Air Force Beach Squadrons that took part in the invasion of Normandy in World War Two.
These specialist Combined Operations units worked with the Royal Navy Beach Commandos and the Army Beach Groups to facilitate the landing, assembly and onward dispatch of personnel, stores and equipment for the 2nd Tactical Air Force across the invasion beaches.
Owing to their brief life and unglamorous nature the R.A.F. Beach Squadrons are largely unknown and very little information about them has been published.
Whilst this site concentrates on the R.A.F. Beach Squadrons that landed on D-Day, 6th June 1944, you will also find reference to other R.A.F. ground units involved in the invasion of Normandy and information about R.A.F. Beach Units that took part in other landings.
This is the place to look if you want to learn something about R.A.F. Beach Units of the Second World War. I will add to the site as I process more material from my researches and I hope that some people who come across this site may be able to supply more information that can be shared.
Thank you for visiting.
