Welcome to the R.A.F. Beach Units Website
The aim of this website is to promote awareness of the Royal Air Force Beach Units that took part in various amphibious assault landings in World War Two.
These specialist Combined Operations units worked with the Royal Navy Beach Commandos and the Army Beach Groups to facilitate the landing, assembly and onward dispatch of personnel, stores and equipment for the Royal Air Force across the invasion beaches so that tactical air support could be provided from the beachhead as soon as possible.
Owing to their transient existence and the unglamorous nature of supply and movements work, the R.A.F. beach units are largely unheard of and very little information about them has been published previously. However, their important role and the work they did in difficult, and usually dangerous, conditions deserves more recognition.
